High Blood Pressure

Approximately 55% of African American in the US have Hypertension or High Blood Pressure and majority develop HBP in their 20s-30s. When symptoms begin to occur, they can start with
early morning headaches, irregular heart rhythms, vision changes, or buzzing in the ears. Severe hypertension can cause fatigue, nausea, vomiting, confusion, anxiety, chest pain, and muscle tremors.

Though this sounds tough to deal with, you can decrease your chances by creating a healthy diet including more fruit, stop the use of all tobacco products, getting better exercise and more!

Women in our culture are our compassionate strong holds. They are the glue that holds our families together. African American women are also endangered when it comes to health disparities in our community.

African American women have the highest rates of obesity with 4 out of 5 women being overweight or obese. Obesity and overweight leads to multiple risk factors such as HBP, Cancer, Heart Disease, and strokes.

African American adults are 60% more likely than non-Hispanic white adults to be diagnosed with diabetes. Obesity and lack of exercise only agitate this condition and can worsen if not dealt with properly.
